Minimally Invasive Cervical Disc Arthroplasty

Appearing in Healthy Directions,
a magazine from CentraState Healthcare System.

In November of 2015, Dr. McLaughlin performed a life changing surgery at CentraState. The surgery, called a Minimally Invasive Cervical Disc Arthroplasty is a newer procedure intended to restore rather than repair a cervical herniated disc. Traditional treatment has involved fusion with a metal plate. The traditional treatment has a good success rate but often reduces motion in the cervical spine.

The newer procedure is a disc replacement that involves a metal on plastic device that removes the herniation yet "glides and slides" to maintain more normal neck motion.
