Chiari Malformation Overview

Chiari Malformation is a disorder in which certain structures in the brain fail to develop normally. The condition is considered to be a congenital malformation, meaning the patient is born with the disorder. However, in some instances patients have acquired the disorder. CerebroSpinal Fluid builds up and results in headaches and other symptoms. Where the CSF buildup occurs in the spinal cord, the condition is then known as syringomyelia.

The condition can require surgical intervention.
