About Dr. Balar
Dr. Dhimant Balar is a fellowship-trained, board-certified physician. He is one of few doctors in Central New Jersey who is board certified in both internal medicine and sports medicine.
After obtaining his medical training at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Balar completed an internal medicine residency at SUNY Stony Brook in Long Island, NY. He went on to complete a sports medicine fellowship at the prestigious Pennsylvania Hospital, which is affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania.
His sports medicine fellowship was a natural progression for someone passionate about athletics and committed to merging that expertise with exceptional patient care. A Rhode Island native, Dr. Balar was a highly competitive baseball player and all-state athlete. He retains an avid interest in all types of sports.
Dr. Balar practices his philosophy of treating the whole patient, rather than simply treating x-ray or imaging results. His integrative, holistic approach to medicine includes the best elements of many techniques, including exercise, nutrition, physical therapy and sports psychology.
Dr. Balar’s all-encompassing approach to medicine is, without question, one of the reasons he has been honored with the Patient’s Choice Award every year since 2008. He has also received the Vitals Compassionate Physician Award and was recently selected one of the Top Doctors in New Jersey for 2017.
Dr. Balar works with exercise enthusiasts as well as amateur and professional athletes. While in Philadelphia, he served on the medical team for the city’s top professional teams: Philadelphia Eagles, Flyers and Phantoms, as well as the city’s pro soccer team, the KIXX. Dr. Balar has also worked with amateur athletes from local high schools and colleges in the area, including Rowan University, Eastern University, Monmouth University, Freehold Township High School, Woodbridge High School, Manalapan High School, and Freehold Borough High School.
He is a former Director of Sports Medicine at the Human Motion Institute at Raritan Bay Medical Center, and he continues to consult for the Institute. At present, Dr. Balar is also the medical director and team physician of the athletic training program for the Monmouth University Hawks at Monmouth University.
Dr. Balar is an Associate Director of the Spine Institute of Central Jersey at the Centra State Medical Center and serves as a consultant and school physician for Freehold Township High School. He also consults with the Meridian Health Care System as an occupational physician.
