 Surgical Pain Management

The physicians of Princeton Brain and Spine Care provide the latest technology in the ever-changing field of surgical pain management.  These conditions include the management of intractable pain syndromes, failed back syndromes, cancer pain, trigeminal neuralgia, occipital neuralgia, among others.  The range of treatments offered vary and include same-day epidural injections or selective-nerve root blocks to neuroaugmentation (spinal cord stimulators and/or intrathecal spinal cord pain pumps) to neuroablative procedures (including decompression and/or Rhizotomies).

The physicians have extensive experience in the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia, a debilitating disorder of the cranial nerve five causing intractable facial pain.  Indeed, minimally invasive techniques and incisions are utilized along with intraoperative nerve monitoring.  This is a procedure we are proud to offer the appropriate patient as we are confident in our ability to secure a successful result.

Cancer pain, pain from failed back syndrome, and/or pain from reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD) can all be difficult management issues.  We offer the range of neuroaugmentation treatments including the implantable pain pump and the spinal cord stimulator.  We also can manage the postoperative care with pump adjustments though typically this is done in conjunction with other pain management physicians.

Occipital neuralgia pain can also be disabling.  We offer the range of treatments including nerve injections to neuroablation strategies including C2 rhyzotomies.

Non-operative pain management is also offered.  Both Dr. McLaughlin and Dr. Shah advocate a step-wise treatment strategy for spinal pain from disk herniations or spinal stenoses.  We offer outpatient lumbar epidural injections as well as selective nerve root blocks in order to maintain a continuity of care with our patients.
