Welcome to Princeton Brain and Spine Care
Dear Patient:
When was the last time you visited a doctor’s office and had enough time to get all your questions answered? When was the doctor not rushing between patients? When you were made to feel like you mattered, and not like "just another patient" on the schedule? It’s probably been a while hasn’t it? Well all of this is about to change for you at Princeton Brain and Spine Care! Please let us explain. Today, most doctors feel like they work on an assembly line. They are under constant pressure from insurance companies and other forces to treat patients quickly and efficiently. There is little time for the personal touch, or for careful reflective decision- making. In short, economic pressures from managed care are hurting medicine for patients and doctors alike.

At Princeton Brain and Spine Care we’re practicing medicine in a new way, which is better for our patients, and allows us doctors to do what we love to do. Our goal is to give you our very best every time we care for you. We want to be good doctors not just now, but 25 years from now. We will not let outside forces change us from who we are: highly trained, caring physicians.
At PBSC we’ve opted out of much of the managed care world of insurance, bureaucracy, and of treatment denials and restrictions. We simply don’t participate in many of the managed care plans. The result is that you are at the center of our treatment process. We see fewer patients than other doctors, so we can focus on you receiving the best care possible. When you call our office the phone will be answered by a person! When you meet with one of our highly trained office staff, you will speak with a person who loves their job caring for you. When you meet with one of our doctors for an evaluation, you’ll receive his undivided attention. If you have questions, go ahead and ask, as we want to be sure you fully understand your condition and options. If we think you need a specific diagnostic test, you’ll receive it! We’re here to provide the best treatment possible.
Of course, extra time and a more personal commitment to the patient aren’t sufficient to guarantee good care! That is why we have some other fundamental principles by which we work:
Outstanding Training
To be a doctor at PBSC the doctor must have excelled in a leading neurosurgical training program, and have since gone on to receive sub-specialty training around the world (i.e. the most in-depth training in very specific areas of neurosurgery).
Advanced Research and Technology
Most doctors only treat patients. PBSC’s doctors are not like that! In addition to caring for patients, our surgeons are committed to conducting scientific research and developing new surgical techniques and tools. This commitment to advancing the field of neurosurgery and spine surgery puts us at the forefront of exciting advances in minimally invasive spine surgery and image guided brain surgery.
Passion for Teaching
The field of neurosurgery and spine surgery is advancing so quickly, it is hard for many doctors to stay up-to-date. At PBSC we are committed to helping surgeons worldwide stay current. For example, Dr. McLaughlin is an Editor of two spine textbooks, has been the Scientific Program Chairman for major medical meetings in the US and Europe, and has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals.
So there you have it. At PBSC we’ve left the managed care assembly line behind, to give patients the best care possible. Of course, we’ve coupled that with ensuring that our doctors are well trained, leading researchers and teachers. We hope that you’ll choose to visit our practice for treatment of your spine or brain condition.
Years ago we chose medicine to be our careers. We embarked upon this calling because we love to care for people and we want to make a difference in this world. Our most important concern is for you, our patient. We will not let anything stand in the way of providing you with the highest quality, compassionate care.
Sincerely,
Mark R. McLaughlin, M.D., F.A.C.S
Nirav K. Shah, M.D.
Seth Joseffer, M.D.
